galenaThis year we move further west, and I believe we have found a location that combines the tranquil beauty of Lake Geneva on a smaller scale, with the uniqueness of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Galena is located on the western border of Illinois, next to the Mississippi River and across from the city of Dubuque, Iowa.

Our host hotel is the Ramada Inn Galena, located on Hwy 20, just west of the historic town of Galena. Our overflow hotel is the Country Inn and Suites right next door.

Behind the hotel is a spacious green lawn beside a private lake, where catch and release fishing is permitted. Our hospitality room will look out over the lake and will extend out onto the outside deck. On show day, our cars will be on that lawn around the lake, as we were in Lake Geneva.

On Tuesday you have your choice of touring the unique shops and fine restaurants in the historic village of Galena, less than a mile from the hotel or join a morning convoy to the site of the movie Field of Dreams (bring your gloves) visit the Evers model Car & Farm outlets and stop for a buffet lunch. In either case I’m sure you will visit historic Galena many times during your visit.

On Wednesday just before noon, we will convoy a few miles to the Mississippi River, where we have contracted a two-hour luncheon cruise down the Mississippi on the new American Lady yacht. This sightseeing cruise will include a hot lunch and an interesting narration. After returning to shore, you can stay right there and visit the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, as well as trying your luck at the Riverboat Casinos. Reserved parking has been arranged.

Due to a greater response than expected, the Ramada and the Country Inn next door have sold out of standard rooms.

Members are asked to call the  Irish Cottage, 815-778-0707, or toll free 866-284-7474. Ask for the special ROA rate of $79, normally $179. They are located about a mile away on Hwy 20 just east of the village of Galena.

Suites are still available at the Country Inn and Suites, next to the host hotel for $109 by calling 815-777-2400.
